Haryana Gets Rs 11 Cores for Rural Sports under PYKKA

Chandigarh (I-Haryana News): Haryana Government has received Rs.11 crore under Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) for the year 2012-13 from Government of India.

This was stated by Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Mr. Sukhbeer Kataria while presiding over a meeting of State Level Executive Committee of PYKKA here today. He said that the funds would be received by the end of September, this year.

Mr. Kataria directed the officers to ensure maximum publicity of games being organized under the scheme. To achieve the desired results, he said that maximum involvement of representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions like Sarpanches, Ex-Sarpanches and Nambardars should be ensured 

Although, Haryana has achieved distinction in sports yet there was less audiences in sports events. Haryana had secured first position in  PYKKA in the year 2011-12, Earlier, the state ranked fourth in the year 2009-10 and second in 2010-11.

He also suggested to include game Kho-Kho under PYKKA. On this, Director Sports Mr. O.P. Singh apprised the Minister that availability of funds for this purpose could be met from District Sports Councils through Deputy Commissioner concerned. 

The Minister also suggested to take necessary action for assigning the responsibility for maintenance of Rajiv Gandhi Rural Sports Stadia till the appointment of regular coaches. He said that private players could also be invited for providing facilities like food court or canteens in rural sports stadia. Possibility for maintenance of sports stadia should also be explored through t It was apprised in the meeting that the maintenance of Rajiv Gandhi Rural Sports Stadium, Behal in district Bhiwani was being done by local BRCM college, which has been quite successful. Similarly, responsibility for maintenance of other such stadia could be handed over to nearest reputed educational institutes.

Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Secondary Education Department, Mrs. Surina Rajan said that with the implementation of SPAT in the state, the students of government schools were now taking keen interests in sports. She said that Sports and Youth Affairs Department should provide participation certificate to those players who secured the minimum criteria of 75 per cent marks so as to boost their morale. Scholarship was being given to only 5000 players under the scheme whereas the numbers of students securing more than 75 per cent marks were much more. Such ambitious schemes should be formulated for them after twelfth standard, she added.
